We, the book nerds society has a serious issue with the fact that how a movie always destroys the essence of characters from a prestigious novel. That’s an unfair call as the novel takes pages and all our undeviating dedicatory time to convey the emotions and build up the character in shreds. We live with the twinkling effect of the ups and downs. But the movie only places all the sources of illumination together and presents it in a continuous form. Here the prediction matters!
When we already know the story we expect it to flow in a particular direction. But, what if we never knew the plot and attach ourselves to to what the movie brings to us.
Is this possible to adore both the versions of the same character? Is this possible to love both the versions of a single story?
Talking about Dil Bechara, the last movie of an Indian Actor,
Late Sushant Singh Rajput that was originally set to be released on 8th May, 2020 but instead was released on 24th of July, 2020 on Disney Hotstar due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, just a month after the sudden demise of the actor. The love for the actor made his fans go overboard to make it a super success even in a digital platform as a tribute to the left soul.
About the story adaptation
It is based on one of the best selling novel of John Green, “The Fault in our Stars”. Where the Hollywood version made its way to the Oscar nomination, the Bollywood version made its way to the people’s heart. The writer made sure that the message of love and hope reaches out in every possible way to his audience. Even in inevitable tragedies, one can find hope and that’s what made the story more powerful and made its impact on all the reading souls.
The movie plot
The movie covers the story of two cancer afflicted patients Kizie Basu (Sanjana Sanghi) and Immaneul Rajkumar Junior (Sushant Singh Rajput) and how they found their way to love ( in every different forms). Kizie dreams of meeting her favorite musician Abhimanyu Veer (Saif Ali Khan) who apparently composed a song and never completed anymore ( modification to the original storyline). Upon listening to the song, Immaneul promises Kizie to fulfil her dreams to meet Abhimanyu. They however managed to meet Abhimanyu Veer but eventually were disheartened over his rude attitude. On their return they both fell to the inevitable twist of their life, the Cancer. While Kizie managed to survive, Immaneul could’t make it through the end and she continued living but never ceased to love him back.
Movie Direction/ Supporting casts/ Additions
The movie was directed by a very new director, Mukesh Chabra who has managed a good direction. Besides Sushant’s performance the other casts also has out-shined throughout the movie. The addition of Kizie’s Bengali family along with the actors playing the role of her parents, Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee were just the cherry on the cake. The songs were also perfectly fitted with the voices of some elite singers, flourished the aura it created !
The Indian adaptation also had an addition of a tribute-short-film which both Kizie and Immaneul shot for, just before the tragedy happened.
Movie review in a nutshell
The movie was bombarded with powerful dialogues which at lesser intervals of the short duration of time will render frequent goosebumps. It uproars a beautiful message and also the actors were seen to do justice to bring out the characters in a very promising and persisting way. With warm, supporting casting and a positive story, the movie managed to win hearts.
Although both Augustus and Manny belonged to the same universe with different names, most of the emotions were attached to the late actor and tbh, it’s worth the hype. Where many of us were hyper-glued to that smiling never-coming-back face of Sushant, some took steps to applaud the performance of other actors associated. But not to forget that some also felt a spooky effect of how the story reflected his real life but coming back to the movie, every moment of him on screen was felt immensely by the audience. The constant urge of his return and his work so far is getting appreciated at a superstar level.
Indeed one shooting star !
“ Zanm kese lena hai aur marna kab hai ye hum deciede nahi kar sakte but jeena kaise hai ye hum decide kar skte hain
– Immaneul a.k.a Sushant Singh Rajput.
